
Shreveport’s Top Stories of 2025 and What Will Happen in 2026
Several of the biggest stories of 2025 in Shreveport-Bossier will also be big stories in 2026. We took a look back at some of these stories and take a peek at what we think will happen with these stories in the news year.
Curtis 50 Cent Jackson and His Investment in Shreveport
We are still waiting to see if the state of Louisiana is going to pony up the $50 million dollars in incentives Jackson is asking for. But he spent much of 2025 buying up downtown properties in Shreveport. He’s moving quickly to build a new domed structure downtown where he plans to host concerts and other events.
Shreveport’s Ongoing Citywide Cleanup Effort
Mayor Tom Arceneaux made city cleanup a defining theme of his administration in 2025. He put together a block-by-block blight initiative targeting several neighborhoods. That effort is expected to continue in the New Year.
Apartment Fires Continue to Plague the Area
Repeated apartment fires across Shreveport-Bossier kept residents concerned about safety, inspections, and property maintenance. Despite investigations and enforcement efforts, the issue resurfaced again and again throughout the year. The city is aggressively pursuing the owners of these properties and we expect that effort to be beefed up in 2026.

That was a big story in Bossier City earlier in 2025 and the new kid on the block is expected to continue to have an impact on the local gambling market.
Bossier City Council Elections Reshape Leadership
We will continue to watch the political change in Bossier City as voters turned local government upside down. Several new Council members were elected. We also said goodbye to a few long time members.
Bernie Sanders Resolution Sparks Legal and Political Firestorm
A measure to honor Bernie Sanders will continue to shine the light of controversy on the Caddo Commission during 2026. The State Attorney General has filed suit against the Commission for this action. We could get a resolution in this case during the New Year.
Watching the LSUS Baseball Team
The national championship Pilots baseball team made history by running the table and going undefeated in 2025. The team was honored by President Trump during a White House visit. Can the 2026 team repeat the national crown?
Crime and Surveillance Cameras Are the Wave in Shreveport
State lawmakers have taken action to ban most traffic cameras in the state (except for the ones in school zones). This put on hold plans by local leaders to expand these programs.

We now have to dial the area code when making local calls and we have a new area code in north Louisiana. If you get a new number these days, you will have the new 457 area code.

We lost a local police officer in Vivian during 2025 and that has many officers reflecting on the dangers of the job. This tragedy and the death of 25-year-old Marc Brock brought the community together in grief and highlighted the dangers faced daily by law enforcement officers.
Pickleball Power Struggle in Shreveport
The Caddo Parish Commission has approved a plan to issue up to $10 million dollars in revenue bonds to pay for a pickleball complex in southeast Shreveport. This story has been a hot topic for most of 2025 and is expected to generate lots of discussion during 2026.

Data Center for Shreveport Gets Greenlight
After a pretty big fight at the end of 2025, the Shreveport City Council has approved the initial plan for a data center in west Shreveport. We should find out more about this project in 2026 and the entire community will be watching.
