I have lived in Shreveport for more than 40 years. It is my home. It's really a great place to live. But we are seeing the population of the city continue to drop. Leaders in Shreveport are hoping they can turn the tide of population shifts in our area. Folks have been leaving the city over the past five years. KEEL News took a close look at the numbers from the Census Bureau to find out how bad the problem is in our region.

Shreveport has lost more than 11,000 residents over the past five years.

What the Census Data Shows for Shreveport

July 2025 population: 175,902

April 2020 population: 187,548

April 2010 population: 199,311

6% of the Shreveport population is under age 6 while 24% is under age 18.
Nearly 18% of the Shreveport population is over age 65. And 53% of the population is women.

What Is the Racial Makeup of Shreveport

The racial makeup of the city is 56% Black, 35% White, 4% Hispanic 1% is Asian, and nearly 5% are mixed race.

Shreveport has more than 10,000 veterans living here.

The median household income in Shreveport is $48,699 while the median income in Louisiana is $60,756

Many folks are hoping we could be seeing some changes with the proposed data centers for the region and the plan by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson to bring movie and tv productions back to town.

What Do the Numbers for Bossier City Look Like

July 2025 population: 63,259

April 2020 population: 62,715

April 2010 population: 61,315

7% of the population of Bossier City is under age 6 while 23% is under age 18.
Nearly 15% of the Shreveport population is over age 65. And 51% of the population is women.

The racial makeup of the city is 28% Black, 55% White, 13% Hispanic 2% is Asian, and nearly 11% are mixed race.

Bossier City has more than 5,700 veterans living here.
