Louisiana State Poker Championship Returns to Horseshoe Bossier City this Week

If you've been searching for “poker tournaments near me” in Louisiana, there is a big one coming to Bossier City this week—and, full disclosure, I’ll be sitting at the table trying my luck.

The Southern Poker/GCP Tour Louisiana State Poker Championship is scheduled for August 19-30, 2026, at Horseshoe Bossier City. Southern Poker's official event calendar lists a full slate of tournaments during the championship, giving local poker players plenty of opportunities to compete for some cash. This is a pretty big deal and I am very excited.

Poker Tournament in Bossier City

Horseshoe Bossier City will be the center of the poker action as players from Louisiana and beyond make their way to Bossier City.

The series kicks off on Wednesday August 19 and runs through August 30. There's a seniors event on August 25, a ladies event on August 20 and so much more. The first event is a $320 CLIP 75K Milestone Satellite at 2 pm on Wednesday. This satellite offers players a chance to win a seat into several larger events.

That's one of the things I like about these poker series: you don't necessarily have to jump straight into the biggest tournament. There are different events and buy-in levels that can give players multiple ways to get into the action.

Anyone Can Play in This Tournament

If you have the entry fee, you can play. In fact, I'll be playing in this Bossier City poker tournament, and I'm going into it with two goals: have a little fun and, hopefully, make a little money.

I'm not walking in expecting to become the next poker superstar. But that's part of the fun. There's something exciting about sitting down at a table, getting your chips, looking at your cards and wondering just how far you can take the hand.

And if things go really well, maybe I'll have a little extra cash in my pocket when I leave.
