Toys R Us Opening 120 Standalone Stores Before The Holiday Season
An early Christmas miracle? Toys R Us has announced plans to open 120 new standalone retail locations across the United States. With the stated intent to have them open ahead of the holiday season. The company aims to eventually expand its total brick and mortar footprint to 160 operational stores nationwide...but they want to get the first batch up and running quick.
This new launch targets growing customer demand from adult collectors and families...marking the largest physical expansion for the brand in years. Afterall, we're not too far removed from the company filing bankruptcy and going through extensive restructuring.
Parent company WHP Global is executing the retail rollout to revive the brand.
Potential Toys R Us Return to Shreveport and Bossier City
North Louisiana previously supported two Toys R Us storefronts prior to nationwide brand liquidation in 2018. The Shreveport location operated at 2706 Mackey Lane near South Park Mall, while Bossier City housed a store at 2918 East Texas Street.
Right now, Louisiana is only home to the Macy's based Toys R Us locations. Those can be found in Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. While that's not good news for current toy collectors in North Louisiana, it might end up being a benefit with new stores.
If those other markets are being serviced by these Macy's variations, but the Shreveport market isn't, it might be a reason for the company to put a standalone store in Shreveport.
New Toys R Us List Remain Confidential
We won't know for sure if Shreveport is getting one during this initial info dump. Corporate executives have not released the full geographic roster for the incoming storefronts.
Industry analysts expect additional market announcements as holiday lease agreements finalize. Local property listings will indicate whether North Louisiana secures a retail site during this national expansion phase.
