City of Shreveport to Shut Down Three Run-Down Apartment Complexes
For several months, certain owners of multi-unit apartment complexes within the City of Shreveport have failed to pay their Water & Sewerage bills to the City, leading to large balances that are unfair to our rate-paying citizens.
Because these complexes are served by master meters, the billing is not assessed to individual tenants but to the landlord, whose responsibility it is to ensure that the bills are paid. Due to the increasing balances and the respective landlords’ lack of communication and willingness to meet their responsibilities, on May 14, 2024, the City will disconnect water service at the Jolie Apartments (1017 Quail Creek), the Pines Apartments (8040 Line Avenue), and Villa Norte apartments (1620 Fullerton).
Other utilities may be disconnected on that date for the same reasons. City personnel have been made aware that last night, tenants at the Jolie Apartments were provided notice that their water and electric utilities would be cut off imminently.
The Mayor, the Council, and all City personnel regret this horrible situation. City officials are working with other community organizations to assist residents of the affected apartments to find alternative housing. If citizens are in need of alternate housing options, the City encourages them to reach out to the City’s Department of Community Development at 318-673- 5900.
That Department may be able to assist them in finding alternate housing arrangements. Going forward, the City will take every available step to collect the amounts owed to the tax-paying public, to hold irresponsible landlords accountable, and to do what it can to prevent this situation from happening again.
