Fairgrounds Field In Shreveport Set For Demolition: What You Need To Know
SHREVEPORT, LA - The time has come. In the next few days we will start seeing demolition crews at Fairgrounds Field.
SPAR Director Shelly Ragle tells KEEL News the notice to proceed has been signed this week and the Dallas company has already been to the sight to do some preliminary work. She says they are expected to to put up fencing around the site and then move in with the wrecking ball.

How Much Were the Bids for Demolition?
The city got 4 responsive bids for the tear down. Those bids ranged from $334,000 to $400,000 dollars. Shreveport has budgeted $600,000 from American Rescue Plan funding to pay for this demolition, so this bid is considerably under budget.
The lowest responsive bidder came from Lloyd D Nabor at $334,000. The Texas based company is expected to have the work complete within 60 days. But Ragle tells KEEL the company understands the city's hope to have the work complete by the time we host the Independence Bowl on December 28th. But she says there is no guarantee that time frame can be met. Weather will also be a determining factor on how quickly the work can be done.
What Will Happen with the Debris from the Site?
Ragle tells KEEL about 90% of the debris is recyclable. So this means the Nabor company will be transporting it to a company that will actually be buying the concrete and steel materials.
Ragle also tells us she expects the company to tear down a portion of the old stadium and then move that debris rather than do all of the demolition and then begin the hauling.
