New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson is taking her neighbors to court, claiming a Crescent City couple was negligent when they allowed their dogs to run unrestrained through their gated community. The dogs killed one of Benson's Yorkshire Terriers and badly injured the other.

Attorneys for the millionaire NFL owner claim that the attack against her pups could have been prevented if Andre and Caroline Robert had properly secured or leashed their two dogs, a mixed German pointer and a border collie.

Benson's lawsuit also alleges that the couple failed to do anything to stop the "vicious attack" on her two Yorkies. Following the incident the Robert's two dogs were euthanized.

Benson's lawyer emphasized that the 75-year-old Benson will donate any monies she might receive from the couple or their insurance company to animal welfare charities in New Orleans. It was also announced that Mrs. Benson would match the amount with a donation of her own.

The two Yorkies, Master Petey and Miss Lucy, were adopted by Benson and her late husband, Tom, in 2017. According to the Benson suit, both were certified as emotional support animals, helping the Saints owner cope with her husband's death in 2018.

The suit claims that Benson was walking her dogs, both collared and leashed, on the sidewalk of her Garden District neighborhood, when the Roberts’ two unleashed dogs attacked them. The horrific scene was recorded on a number of neighborhood security cameras.

Mrs. Benson has owned the NFL Saints and NBA Pelicans since her husband passed away almost four years ago at the age 90.
