Victims of domestic violence can get some extra help once the Northwest Louisiana Family Justice Center opens Thursday afternoon.

The new center will cover six judicial districts and nine parishes: Caddo (1st District); Bienville, Claiborne and Jackson (2nd District); Sabine (11th District); Bossier and Webster (26th District); Red River (29th District); and DeSoto (42nd District).

According to Bossier/Webster District Attorney Schuyler Marvin, the center will offer coordinated services to those who would continue to be victims without the necessary resources to put their lives back together and become productive citizens.

Family Justice Center Executive Director Jeri Bowen said the spectrum of services coordinated through the center and area faith-based and grassroots organizations includes counseling, meetings with an assistant DA, assistance in filing police and probation reports and protective orders, and more.

A grand opening ceremony will be held from 2-3 p.m. Thursday, March 17, in the Miciotto Auditorium at the Willis-Knighton Innovation Center, located at 2105 Airline Drive in Bossier City. A tour of the facility will take place after the ceremony. The center is directly across the street at 1513 Doctors Drive.
