Shreveport is still reeling from Sunday's mass shooting and the needs of the families will likely require a long term response.

Help has been coming in from many fronts. The Community Foundation has set up 2 funds to respond to the tragedy. One will assist the families and the other will help prevent domestic violence.

But now, the Caddo Parish Commission has approved emergency spending of up to $350,000 dollars to support local organizations that provide critical services to victims and the community.

The funding is aimed at addressing the immediate and ongoing needs stemming from the tragedy, including mental health support, housing assistance, and community outreach. Commissioners emphasized the urgency of getting resources into the hands of groups already working on the front lines.

Focus on Recovery and Prevention

Commissioners say the goal is not only to help victims heal but also to strengthen community resources to prevent future violence. Many of the selected agencies specialize in intervention programs, youth outreach, and crisis response.

Officials noted that the funding will be distributed as quickly as possible to ensure services are expanded without delay.

The emergency allocation reflects a broader commitment by parish leaders to respond decisively to violence and invest in long-term solutions that support public safety and community well-being.
