SHREVEPORT, LA - Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux and the City Council are taking a close look at expanding the city's speed camera program. This comes after some council members and residents have complained about out of control speeding around the city.

Arceneaux says he's looking at adding at least 12 speed zone cameras at specific locations around the city.

This speed zone camera system will be operated by Blue Line Solutions. The Tennessee based company will install the cameras and the signage to let drivers know about the camera ticketing program.

Mayor Arceneaux says the goal is to deter speeding and provide safer streets for everyone.

Shreveport has recorded 32 fatal crashes in 2023 and 2024. We have had 7 fatal crashes so far this year. Leaders hope these cameras will help lower that number.

Blue Line Solutions uses LIDAR technology to detect speeding violations. If a vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit in a designated camera zone, a ticket is generated and mailed to the registered vehicle owner.

Critics of these speed zone cameras have raised constitutional questions and also have concerns about privacy. State Senator Alan Seabaugh has called these cameras a "money grab" and he wants them outlawed.
