A Shreveport man convicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm has been sentenced in Caddo District Court.

44 year-old Anthony Tyrone Ashley was convicted back in April. He was facing at least 5 and up to 20 years in prison under state law. The Judge took in to consideration the several other felonies that Ashley had been convicted of and he could have faced more time.

However, Ashley agreed to serve the maximum sentence of 20 years and waive any and all appellate and post-conviction rights, which was agreed with by the Judge.

Back in 2024, the Shreveport Police Department attempted a traffic stop on Ashley. Officers hit the lights and sirens, but Ashley refused to stop, leading Police on a long chase. Ashley eventually abandoned his car leading SPD on a foot chase.

During the chase, Police noticed that Ashley discarded a hand gun shortly before being caught and arrested. At trial, the state presented evidence proving Ashley was convicted in November 2016 of simple burglary, which prohibits owning or possessing a firearm.

From the Caddo DA:

Assistant District Attorneys Christopher S. Bowman and Stephen Folk-Cruthirds prosecuted the case. Timothy Holden defended Ashley.

The case was docket No. 405229.
