More Guns, Drugs, and Felons Taken off Shreveport Streets

A pair of early-morning police operations in Shreveport led to the arrests of two convicted felons on illegal firearm charges, highlighting ongoing proactive efforts to combat local gun violence.

Late-Night Patrol Yields Stolen Firearm and Drugs

The first arrest occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, when Shreveport police officers took Jermareo Kirkwood into custody. According to investigators, Kirkwood was found with both narcotics and a handgun in his possession.

A background check revealed the firearm had previously been reported stolen. Officers also confirmed Kirkwood has prior felony convictions related to both firearms and drugs.

Kirkwood currently faces multiple charges, including:

• Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
• Illegal possession of a stolen firearm
• Illegal carrying of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance
• Possession of narcotics

Early-Morning Traffic Stop Leads to Second Arrest

A few days later, on Sunday, July 19, proactive enforcement paid off again during a 5:00 a.m. traffic stop. Officers contacted Christopher Brown, who was found carrying a handgun.

Subsequent investigation showed Brown had an extensive criminal history, featuring numerous felony convictions involving weapons, stolen property, and narcotics offenses.

Brown was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

SPD Continues Crackdown on Prohibited Firearms

Department officials emphasized that removing firearms from individuals legally barred from owning them remains a top priority. Shreveport police noted that both arrests serve as clear examples of how targeted, proactive policing is helping take illegal weapons off city streets to prevent future violence.
