Shreveport Police Warn About “One Ring” Phone Scam Targeting Residents
SHREVEPORT, LA - Shreveport police want you to be aware of a scam that has surfaced in the area. It's been dubbed "the One Ring" phone scam. Victims in our area have been hit by this scam.
How Does the One Ring Scam Work?
You get a call on your phone, but the caller hangs up after one ring. So, do you call this person back? Lots of people do simply to find out who it was and what the caller wanted. But these scammers take advantage of your curiosity and when you dial the number back, you are often linked to an international number that can disguise where the call originates from. You will then find whopping charges on your phone bill for things like connection fees, per minute rates and "premium services".

What You Should Do If You are Hit By One Ring Scammers?
Your best bet is to contact police. In fact, some phone carriers require you to file a police report before they will consider adjusting your bill.
These scammers are also leaving voicemail messages for some asking you to call back to claim a prize.
They are also pretending to check on a sick relative and want you to call them back.
Don't do it.
Police Have this Advice to Avoid this Scam
· Do not answer or return calls from unknown numbers.
· Before calling unfamiliar numbers, check if the area code is international.
· If you do not make international calls, ask your service provider to block outgoing international calls.
· Be cautious, even if the number looks authentic.
You are also encouraged to contact your service provider to dispute any suspicious charges.
