Shreveport Theft Suspect Arrested for Battery of a Police Officer and Medical Staff
Shreveport Police officers responded to East 70th Street in reference to a suspect involved in a prior theft who had been located in the area.
Officers made contact with an employee of the RaceWay, who told them that earlier that morning a man entered the store and stole multiple items. Officers were able to locate the suspect a short time later near East 70th Street and Fairfield Avenue.
The man was identified as Jordano Maxie. While searching Maxie, Officers found a smoking pipe in Maxie’s front pocket. Post-Miranda, Maxie admitted the pipe was used to smoke crack.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the business, which positively identified Maxie as the man responsible for the theft.
Maxie was taken into custody and transported toward the Shreveport City Jail. While Maxie was being taken to jail, he became verbally aggressive. When he arrived at the jail, Maxie complained of chest pains and stated he had recently used narcotics.
Medics responded and evaluated Maxie on scene before taking him a local hospital for treatment. During transport and upon arrival at the hospital, Maxie continued to display aggressive and combative behavior. He spit at several healthcare workers and attempted to strike medical personnel.
While officers attempted to assist medical staff in placing Maxie onto a hospital bed, he began kicking officers, causing visible bruising and swelling.
Throughout his time at the hospital, Maxie remained noncompliant and combative. He ultimately refused medical treatment and requested discharge.
Following his release, Maxie was transported back to the Shreveport City Jail, where he was booked on charges related to the theft and additional charges stemming from his behavior toward officers and medical personnel. Theft, Battery of Emergency Medical Service, and two counts of Battery of a Police Officer.
