State Senator Barrow Peacock talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about changes made to one third of a penny sales tax passed by the House of Representatives and whether that new, half penny tax has any chance of making it final passage.

Peacock tells KEEL listeners that the Senate "added more than $300 million (in taxes). Unfortunately, this committee went after businesses. We need private sector jobs that aren't funded by the state the be the engine for our economy. We're not going in that direction with that bill the way it is right now."

The Shreveport senator explains that, coming out of committee, the bill will most likely be presented to the full Senate for a vote on Friday and will require a two thirds vote to pass. At that point, because it was originally a House bill, it will go back to the lower chamber for another vote, where House leaders say it will, most likely, fail.
