Louisiana State Senator Barrow Peacock talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about his plan to introduce legislation to implement the already passed fantasy sports gaming and to legalize and implement sports gaming in Louisiana.

The sports fantasy bill has been on the shelf since it was approved by state voters in 2018. In last year's legislative session, lawmakers failed to agree on how to tax fantasy sites like Draft Kings and Fan Duel. Peacock's proposal, he says, would place no tax on fantasy sites, just make them available to Louisianans "because the people have voted on it."

Meanwhile, the Senator's sports gaming legislation, would legalize betting "at the state's fifteen riverboats, the land based casino in New Orleans (Harrah's) and racetracks."

If Peacock's sports betting bill becomes law, it would then go to Louisiana voters for approval. He adds that, just like his sports fantasy proposal, there would be no added state tax assessed on the gaming sites.
