A man shot and killed on Interstate 49 near Gilliam in north Caddo Parish late Sunday, January 17, 2021, has been named by the Caddo Parish Coroner's office.

 Allen Wesley Jefferson of Shreveport, 41, was shot in the head around 2 p.m. He was transported to Ochsner LSU Health hospital where he succumbed to his wounds at 3:55 p.m.

The victim was in a car with family members headed north on I-49 near Gilliam when he got into an argument with his nephew, 21-year-old Traveion Fields. Fields pulled out a gun and shot his uncle in the back of the head. The news release says:

"After the shooting, the driver of the vehicle turned around to take the victim to the hospital. Fields jumped out of the vehicle near North Forty Loop where he went to a residence and used the phone to contact the Sheriff's Office. The victim died at Ochsner LSU Medical Center. Fields was arrested in the 1600 block of North Forty Loop. He was booked into Caddo Correctional by Det. Demetrice Ellis for second-degree murder."

Mr. Jefferson was positively identified through fingerprint comparison. An autopsy has been ordered.

 The shooting remains under investigation by the Caddo Parish Sheriff's office, to which further inquiries should be directed.
