Shreveport Resident Shoots Teen Suspected of Burglarizing Cars

Over the weekend Shreveport Police got a call from University Drive. The caller said he had two masked people breaking in to cars on the street and also stealing a car. The caller noticed one of the men coming toward him when they noticed he was on the phone with Police.

The caller was afraid of what the masked man would do to him or his family if he got too close, so he shot twice hitting 18 year-old Jamelvion Lewis in the upper-body.

Police made it to the scene and began helping Lewis while waiting for an ambulance. While helping, Police found a handgun on Lewis that they later found out was reported stolen out of Bossier City.

The other masked person took off in the stolen car, but abandoned it not far from where he drove off from had ran away on foot. Police are still looking for this person.

The 911 caller cooperated with SPD and gave up his gun for evidence. All witnesses were taken to the Violent Crimes Unit for interviews.

Lewis was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is said to be in critical, but stable condition. Police believe that Lewis and his unknown partner are responsible for a number of crimes in that area, including at least five vehicle burglaries, one firearm theft, and one motor vehicle theft.

"Lewis has been charged with one count of Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Additional charges are expected. At this time, there are no charges pending against the 911 caller."
