Shreveport Man Arrested After 3 Year-Old is Shot
A three year-old was left in critical condition after a preventable accident.
Shreveport Police were called to Raspberry Lane on Tuesday evening responding to a shooting call. When SPD showed up they found a three year-old toddler with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The child was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. The three year-old remains in critical condition and is expected to pull-through.
An investigation was launched and Detectives with SPD found that the child got ahold of a gun and accidentally shot themself while adults were in the house with them. Police were told that the gun belonged to Cedarius Mims who took the gun and left the house after the child was shot.
On Wednesday SPD was able to get contact with Mims and convinced him to turn himself in. Mims was arrested and charged with one count of Obstruction of Justice for fleeing the scene after the child was shot, and one count of Second-Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile.
Police are still investigating this case and more will be added to this article as information is forthcoming.
