Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson New Speaker of the House
In Wednesday's vote on the House floor, Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson, from Shreveport, garnered 220 votes to become the 56th Speaker of the House, and the first Speaker in history from the state of Louisiana.
Johnson became the fourth candidate Tuesday night to replace ousted speaker Kevin McCarthy. With Republicans holding 221 seats, Johnson need full support to become speaker.
With Johnson now Speaker, Louisiana has 2 of the highest-ranking GOP leaders on Capitol Hill, as Steve Scalise is the House Majority Leader.
After his nomination as Speaker nominee Johnson said:

An LSU Law School graduate, Johnson is a constitutional attorney from Benton, Louisiana. He is a Captain Shreve High School graduate and is married to Kelly. They have four children.
