State Treasurer John Kennedy has a comfortable lead over other Republicans in the first poll involving candidates for the US Senate seat to be decided this November. Kennedy had nearly double the support of his nearest GOP opponent, Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle.

Leading all those in the race with 23% was the only Democrat, Public Service Commission Chairman Foster Campbell.

Local Congressman Dr. John Fleming trailed the field of five GOP entrants with 6%.

Here are the results from the poll, commissioned by SurveyUSA research conducted for the Make Louisiana Proud Political Action Committee:

Foster Campbell (D) 23%

John Kennedy (R) 21%

Scott Angelle (R) 12%

Charles Boustany (R) 10%

Rob Maness (R) 9%

John Fleming (R) 6%
