Caddo Parish’s $10M Pickleball Complex: A Winning Investment?
Caddo Parish is considering a $10 million investment in a championship pickleball complex, and supporters say the facility could become a major economic driver for Northwest Louisiana. Parish Commissioner Grace Ann Blake emphasizes that this isn't just about providing local courts, it's about transforming the region into a destination for national tournaments.
Economic Impact: Lessons from Florida
Supporters point to examples from Florida, the location of the closest similar facility, has brought substantial economic benefits. The East Naples Community Park, home to the U.S. Open Pickleball Championships, generates an estimated $13 million in economic impact annually. Likewise, the PicklePlex, a much smaller complex, in Fort Myers has contributed an estimated $10 million to the local economy since it opened in 2019, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.
Revenue Bonds, Not Taxes
A common concern is whether funds for the pickleball complex could be better spent on other needs, such as crime prevention or road repairs. Blake clarifies that the project will be funded through "Revenue bonds", which are not sourced from taxpayer dollars and are instead repaid through the revenue generated by the facility itself.
Broad Community Support
The project has garnered endorsements from a wide range of local institutions, including the local school board, universities like Grambling and LSUS, and the Shreveport-Bossier Tourism Bureau. Blake envisions that the complex will introduce every child in Caddo Parish to the sport and create lasting benefits for the community.

What's Next?
A key economic committee meeting is scheduled for today, with a full commission vote potentially happening later this week. Supporters are encouraged to attend or reach out to their commissioners to voice their support.
