Shreveport Police Make Two Domestic Violence Arrests
The Shreveport Police have been working hard to take care of Domestic Violence cases leading up to October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
According to SPD, Domestic Violence is the most prevalent crime in Shreveport. It often happens within households between current or former romantic partners. It is not random street violence but the actions of people who should feel safe in their own homes that pose the most serious threat.
This year, SPD has noted several cases that show how severe this issue is in our city. Last Thursday, SPD's Domestic Violence Detectives arrested Peter Sethavanarath after a violent attack and home invasion. He was charged with one count of home invasion and three counts of child endangerment. The victim in this case sustained visible injuries.
On the same day, Veronica Smith was arrested after a violent attack in an unrelated incident for domestic abuse and aggravated assault.
Chief Wayne Smith emphasizes: "We must recognize that the greatest danger to many individuals comes from those closest to them. Domestic violence is preventable, and it is our responsibility as a community to intervene, support victims, and hold offenders accountable. We must do better."
From SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department encourages anyone experiencing domestic violence or who is aware of someone in danger to seek help immediately. Resources are available through the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Domestic Violence Unit, local shelters, and our department.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911."
