Shreveport Payroll Glitch Delays City Worker Paychecks
Shreveport city employees woke up Friday morning to a problem no worker wants to see on payday. Their direct deposit checks had not landed in their bank accounts overnight.
Mayor Tom Arceneaux told KEEL News on Friday that the issue was tied to a human error in the city’s finance department, not a lack of funds. He said the initial payroll file was rejected and the city responded incorrectly before correcting the problem. According to the mayor, the deposits were expected to begin showing up in accounts by noon Friday.
Mayor Says Payroll Problem Was Human Error
Arceneaux was direct about what happened, saying city employees were dealing with “a city full of human employees” and that “occasionally somebody pushes the wrong button.”
The mayor said his own paycheck had not hit his account either, which helped him quickly understand this was not limited to one department or one group of workers. He said once he checked his own account and saw the missing deposit, he realized the city had a problem with the direct deposit submission.
When asked whether the city would make changes to keep this from happening again, Arceneaux said the city learns from mistakes and he felt confident this specific mistake would not be repeated.
What Should Employees Do About Overdrafts?
The bigger concern for many city workers was simple. Bills are often drafted on the 15th, and missing even a few hours of pay can create real anxiety for families living on a tight schedule.
Brandi Falting with Red River Credit Union told KEEL News on Friday that each financial institution handles those situations differently, but she said Red River Credit Union would honor the direct deposits and not charge fees for its members related to the payroll delay.

Falting said ACH payroll files are processed multiple times a day, so once the corrected file moved through the system, employees should begin seeing deposits appear. By the time she spoke Friday morning, she said she was already hearing from some people whose payroll deposits had started showing up.
A Reminder to Watch Your Bank Account
Faulkner also used the moment to remind people to keep a close eye on their bank accounts and credit reports. She said people should watch for fraud, forgotten subscriptions, and charges that keep appearing after cancellation.
Her best advice was simple. Have a relationship with your bank or credit union so that when something unusual happens, you have someone to call.
For city workers, the good news is that this appears to be a temporary payroll delay, not a long-term payroll problem. Still, for anyone with automatic payments scheduled, a few hours can matter.
