Shreveport police responded to a call in the Caddo Heights neighborhood just before 4:30 on Tuesday afternoon.

As officers arrived on the scene near Fulton and Wallace Avenue, the suspect tried to flee in a car, but while he was speeding off, he allegedly fired several shots at the officers arriving on the scene. The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect in the leg. Reports indicate the suspect was armed with a semi-automatic rifle.

He has been rushed to a Ochsner LSU Health for treatment. No specific details on his condition have been released. A spokesman for Shreveport police tell KEEL News no officers were hurt during this incident. The suspect's name has not yet been released.

Louisiana State Police have been called in to investigate this incident.

This is the 2nd SPD officer involved shooting in the last 3 days. Sunday night, 33-year-old Joseph Dewayne Taylor was shot and killed by Shreveport Police after a traffic stop. The shooting occurred at 9:31 p.m. Sunday night. Taylor was transported to Ochsner LSU Health hospital, where he died as a result of several gunshot wounds.

Taylor reportedly had a lengthy criminal history.

This killing is Caddo Parish's 24th homicide of the year and is also under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
