Shreveport Police Arrest Two in Separate Gun Crimes

The Shreveport Police Department continues Chief Smith’s commitment to reducing gun violence and keeping illegal firearms off our streets.

Yesterday, SPD Officers conducting patrols in the area of Burke Street encountered Ri’Corrian Bradford. During the encounter, Bradford repeatedly refused Police commands to remove his hands from his pockets and continued moving toward a patrol vehicle while concealing his hands.

Officers discovered Bradford was armed with a handgun. Further investigation revealed the gun had been reported stolen.

Bradford was arrested and charged with:

· Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm

· Negligent Carrying of a Handgun

In a separate incident, Shreveport Police Officers in the Monkhouse Drive corridor encountered Shomari Atkins. Officers found Atkins was armed with a handgun. Further investigation determined Atkins is a convicted felon stemming from a previous robbery conviction and is prohibited from possessing a gun.

Atkins was arrested and charged with:

· Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

"These arrests are another example of proactive policing aimed at locating illegally possessed firearms before they can be used in violent crimes.

Chief Smith has made it clear: if you are prohibited from possessing a firearm, SPD officers will continue working to find you, find the gun, and get it off the street."
