Tragic Motorcycle Accident Claims a Life In Shreveport
Tragedy on the north side of Shreveport where a man driving a motorcycle is killed in a single vehicle accident. Officers responded to Martin Luther King Drive at Russell Road just after 1pm on Tuesday and found the wreck in the roadway.
The victim was unconscious in the roadway with a head injury. He has been identified as Philip Ernest Miller. A daycare worker from nearby along with a Shreveport City Marshal were performing CPR in an attempt to try to save Miller. He was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health with life-threatening injuries.
Crash investigators believe Miller was headed east on MLK when he ran off the roadway in a curve. Investigators believe speed may have contributed to this fatal crash.
Witnesses told SPD officers Miller laid the motorcycle down as he was trying to make the curve. Miller was wearing a full-face helmet, but it was not properly secured with the chin straps. That resulted in serious injuries to his head during the crash.
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has confirmed Miller did not survive and was pronounced dead at the hospital during the overnight hours.
This is the 23rd fatal crash in Caddo Parish this year. We have the highest number of traffic fatalities in the state.
SPD sends out this message:
“The Shreveport Police Department extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Miller’s family and reminds all motorists of the importance of wearing and properly securing safety gear.”
