Shreveport Police Department officers have been busy this weekend having removed several firearms from criminal hands during recent incidents, further demonstrating the department’s commitment to reducing gun violence in the community.
Incident #1: On Friday, December 13, 2024, at approximately 6:02 p.m., officers responded to an armed person call at 4302 N. Market Street, Apartment 501. The complainant reported that her brother, 32-year-old Stephen Plater, had threatened them with a firearm.
Upon arrival, officers detained Plater, who was sitting on the apartment steps. An investigation revealed Plater is a convicted felon with prior charges including Second Degree Rape and Second Degree Battery. He was arrested for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and the weapon was secured and logged into evidence.
Incident #2: Later that evening, at approximately 8:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 6700 block of Raspberry Lane regarding a domestic disturbance. Following an investigation, 36-year-old Sheldon Till was arrested for Aggravated Assault Upon a Dating Partner and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Officers also discovered Till had multiple outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions. His firearm was seized and placed into evidence.
Incident #3: On Saturday, December 14, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m., officers conducting proactive patrols observed a suspicious vehicle in the 4200 block of Lakeshore Drive. After investigating, they found 28-year-old Rodney Garner in possession of narcotics and a firearm. Garner was arrested for Possession of Narcotics and Illegal Carrying of a Weapon.
Incident #4: Later that night, officers initiated a traffic stop at Pines Road and Greenwood Road. During the stop, they observed a Glock 9mm firearm between the driver’s seat and center console. A further search of the vehicle revealed a large quantity of narcotics. The driver, 24-year-old Devante Brown, was arrested for Distribution of Narcotics and Illegal Carrying of a Firearm.
In all cases, the firearms were seized and will be destroyed upon completion of legal proceedings.
The Shreveport Police Department takes gun-related offenses seriously and will continue working diligently to remove illegal firearms from the streets to protect the community.
