Shreveport Police have been working hard getting illegal drugs off the streets, and their focus last week was Highland.

SPD's Vice Unit, working in with agents from the Street Level Interdiction Unit (SLIU), made several arrests while responding to complaints of drug activity in the Highland neighborhood.

During the investigation, SPD Officers arrested Michael Bates after he was found actively distributing narcotics. Bates was also in possession of a weapon that was being carried illegally.

SPD looked in to Bates' records and found that he had outstanding felony warrants out of Caddo Parish. He has been charged with one count of distribution of narcotics and one count of illegal carrying of a weapon, in addition to the outstanding warrants.

In a related investigation, officers also arrested Ernest Fleeks on December 18. Fleeks has been charged with two counts of distribution of narcotics.

From SPD:

"The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to addressing narcotics-related activity and working proactively to keep neighborhoods safe. Through continued collaboration between specialized units, SPD will persist in its efforts to protect the community and improve quality of life across the city.

Anyone with information regarding illegal drug activity is encouraged to contact the Shreveport Police Department or Caddo Crime Stoppers."
