School Bus Struck by Car Running Stop Sign in Shreveport

Quite an alarming call on Tuesday morning in north Shreveport. A Caddo Parish school bus was involved in a crash in the MLK neighborhood on the way to school.

Police report 21 people including 19 children were hurt in this crash.

Investigators believe a car ran a stop sign and collided with the bus. That bus was on the way to Linear-Northside Middle School at the time of the wreck.

Caddo EMS Crews Respond to the Mass-Casualty Accident

This wreck was reported as a mass casualty event because multiple ambulances would be needed to transport all the children to local hospitals. The wreck happened just after 7:30 in the morning.

Shreveport Fire Department Chief Clarence Reese Jr. says this is reported as a mass casualty event because of the number of victims. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt.

58 people were on bus 699 when the accident happened. The bus was taking students to Linear-Northside Middle School.

One adult on the bus and the driver of the car were also transported to the hospital.

The driver of the car apparently ran the stop sign at Peach and Freddie streets colliding with the bus and then slamming into a tree.

That driver will be issued a ticket and checked for impairment.

Caddo School District Responds to the Crash

The school principal and other school leaders responded to the scene to check on the children and offer help.

Caddo Parish Public Schools issued a statement following the incident:

We are grateful to the first responders who quickly evaluated those involved, ensured students received appropriate care, and made certain everyone was checked and cared for following the accident. Linear-Northside Middle School Principal Dr. Cindy Frazier was also on scene supporting students and families throughout the response. We are especially appreciative of the care, calm, and leadership she provided to students and parents during what was understandably a difficult morning. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. The district will continue to work closely with law enforcement as they investigate the circumstances of the accident.
