Shreveport Police have made an arrest in the shooting that claimed the life of 13 year-old Shamichael Russell and injured two other juveniles.

SPD Detectives have arrested Javieon Abbott and charged him with one count of Second-Degree Murder.

The investigation began after officers responded to Olde Salem Village Apartments on Buncombe Road, where three juveniles were shot near the basketball court. Russell suffered life-threatening injuries and later died. A 2 year-old and a 17 year-old were also injured.

Chief Wayne Smith commended on work of SPD Homicide Detectives:

“From the moment this case began, our detectives’ determination to find justice for Shamichael, his family, and the other children who were injured never wavered. They worked nonstop through the night and throughout the day, following every lead and using every available resource until the person responsible was in custody.

We will take care of our children, and we will hold those who harm them accountable.”

SPD also thanked the Gator Task Force, including members of the Louisiana State Police and the FBI, whose resources assisted detectives in bringing this case forward.

From SPD:

"The investigation is not over. Additional arrests may follow, and additional charges against Abbott are expected in the coming hours as detectives continue their work.

Let this serve as a clear message to those who choose violence in our community: when you harm our children, we will come for you. We will use every resource available, and we will not stop until those responsible are held accountable."
