Shreveport Woman Accused of Helping Escaped Inmate During Texas Manhunt
We are now getting more details about how a Caddo Parish inmate was able to stay on the run for just over a week. Caddo Parish deputies have arrested a Shreveport woman for allegedly helping Tre'veon Jackson stay on the run.
Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr. says 28-year-old Mikhala Duncan was taken into custody and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on a charge of accessory to simple escape.
How the Fugitive Met Up in Texas
Investigators believe Tre'veon Jackson contacted Duncan after breaking out of custody, leading to at least two secret meetings in Texas. Duncan reportedly admitted to detectives that she knew Jackson was a fugitive when she traveled to see him. On the night law enforcement finally caught up with Jackson in Marshall, Texas, Duncan was allegedly present with their child so the fugitive could spend time with them.
Ongoing Manhunt and Investigation
This arrest is another piece of the puzzle to explain how Jackson managed to stay hidden for several days. The investigation surrounding Jackson's brazen jailbreak and subsequent multi-agency manhunt will continue to try to determine if any other people may have helped him.
Jackson escaped after he was transported to Ochsner/LSU Health for a medical evaluation. Sheriff Whitehorn says proper protocol was not followed during that transport. Only one deputy was with Jackson on this medical trip and that should not have happened. The sheriff also noted that Jackson was not properly restrained during the entire time of the transport. Whitehorn is tightening up the policies to work to ensure this kind of escape doesn't happen again.
