[Update] Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover is resting comfortably at Christus Schumpert hospital following surgery this afternoon. According to the Mayor's Office, the procedure was completed in three hours and was complication-free.

[Original Story] Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover will have his surgery this afternoon.

A news release from his office says the procedure to repair the quadriceps tendons he ruptured during his October 3 fall at a local elementary school will last about three hours. No complications are expected.

The mayor suffered cuts and bruises during the fall and his doctors wanted those to heal before he had the surgery.

A statement from Mayor Glover says, "I certainly appreciate all the cards, emails and especially the prayers that folks have been sending my way. I'm confident the surgery will go well and I'll begin my rehabilitation as soon as possible so I can get back to something that resembles a normal schedule."

Sam Jenkins is expected to step in as acting mayor in Glover's absence. We're working on getting in touch with him to find out what his plans are for some upcoming issues, particularly the dog park proposal.
