GM TRUCK RECALL ALERT FOR LOUISIANA DRIVERS:

Because we were home to a massive General Motors manufacturing plant for years, GM has a lot of loyal fans in this area. In fact, GM is the number 2 favorite truck for Louisianians, just behind the Ford F150.

According to a recent report by AP, General Motors has announced a recall affecting nearly 462,000 diesel-powered vehicles, including pickup trucks and large SUV's, including popular models like the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, produced between 2020 and 2022.

The recall is due to a defect in the transmission control valve that can cause rear wheels to lock up unexpectedly, posing a serious crash risk.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, a transmission control valve can wear out over time, and in rare cases it can fail and lock up the rear wheels. Drivers may notice harsh shifting before any wheel problems.

What is being Done to Correct the Problem?

According to AP, GM will provide warranty coverage to repair affected transmissions. GM says dealers will install new transmission control software that will monitor the valve and detect excess wear 10,000 miles before the wheels lock up. If wear is detected, the transmission will be limited to fifth gear, preventing wheel lockup, which happens when the transmission downshifts from eighth gear.

Affected owners will be notified by mail starting December 9, 2024, and are encouraged to check their vehicle's recall status using the NHTSA website.
