🏫 What About High School Testing Changes?
SHREVEPORT, LA - A big change is on the way for many schools across the state of Louisiana. State Education Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley says he is pushing a plan to cut back the number of days students spend on state testing.

What Grades Will See Shorter Testing Times?
In an exclusive interview, Dr. Brumley told KEEL News he wants to trim the amount of time students spend in testing by at least 20%. This change would be put in place for grades 3-8 this school year. He says the experts tell him we can still get valid results on the LEAP tests even if you reduce the amount of time students are testing.
Brumley says this will go into effect this school year and it will reduce the amount of time students are spending taking LEAP tests.
He says they will take immediate steps to reduce the amount of questions on these tests without impacting the results.
Cade Brumley Says We Will Still Get Accurate LEAP Results
We do need to get good results and know where students are academically and we think we can do that. But we also think we can do that by reducing the amount of times that kids are testing.
Brumley says the English portion of the test can be trimmed. Some of the multiple choice questions can be removed. He also thinks some of the writing prompts can be eliminated as well.
Brumley says he does not want kids to sit in a classroom testing for an "unreasonable amount of time and I have put my team on finding a way to make this happen and I think we have found a way."
What About High School Testing Changes?
Brumley tells KEEL News he wants to put this in place in 3-8 right now. But he says we have to be smart about it. He says we will look at further reductions in the future. But he wants to try this and see how it goes before implementing changes at the high school level.
