Olympic Gold Medalist Skates Shreveport Ice in Centenary Football Helmet
One of the best things happening in Shreveport right now is the residence of enthusiastic ice skating legend Oksana Baiul.
Ever since her warmth helped melt the Shreveport ice during a snow storm in early 2024, the city has been in love with her. She posted a video from her Shreveport driveway during a blast of winter weather that covered the city in ice and snow. The video showed her skating on her ice covered driveway.
Oksana has popped up all over Shreveport events, bringing fun and smiles along the way. You can always find something Shreveport related on her social media accounts.
This week, we were treated to some posts about her skating at George's Pond inside the historic Hirsch Coliseum, home of the Shreveport Mudbugs. But it wasn't just that she was flexing her skating muscles, she was having some extra fun on the ice with the help of the Centenary Football team.
Sporting a Centenary Football helmet, Oksana hit some moves, with smiles the whole time. Her fun and excitement is contagious, even through social media videos. But it wasn't over with just the helmet, she went full football mode.
Rocking the football helmet and Mardi Gras beads, she caught a football that was tossed to her, and was somehow able to punt the ball while on skates...on the ice.
We say "somehow", but really, she's an Olympic Gold Medalist ice skater...obviously she has skills.
Because remember, she won the 1994 Olympic Gold Medal for Ladies' Singles, and she won the World Championship in 1993. So when we see her kick a football wearing skates on ice, we think its superhuman...and it is. It just so happens that Oksana Baiul is superhuman.
She's being spotted at the Hirsch with Shreveport Figure Skating a lot recently. The organization has been around for almost a decade now. Their mission statement online says:
