In light of the ongoing effort to kill a deadly amoeba discovered in some Louisiana water supplies, DeSoto Waterworks District No.1 has issued the following statement:

"Waterworks District #1 in DeSoto Parish is initiating a 'chlorine burn' in our system to combat the detection of the Naegleria Fowleri ameba in our system," reads the public notice. "Customers may notice a higher smell and taste of Chlorine in the drinking water, but levels of Chlorine will stay below maximums recommended by Louisiana DHH. Customers may also at times notice a slight discoloration of the water."

Th group says that the flushing program will occur until they have "achieved the new standards of chlorine recommended by the Louisiana DHH."
