Authorities with the Shreveport Police Department are investigating a tragic late-night incident in the 2500 block of Malcolm Street that left a young woman and man dead in an apparent murder-suicide. 

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at a Malcolm Street residence at approximately 11:25 p.m. on July 23, 2026. 

Upon entering the home, first responders discovered a 22-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from the Shreveport Fire Department.

Nearby, officers located a 20-year-old male suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with a firearm still in his hand. Emergency crews rushed him to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed to his wounds. 

Tragic Altercation in Bedroom 

Preliminary information gathered by detectives indicates that the situation escalated from a domestic dispute. 

According to police: 

  • The Dispute: The victim and the suspect were involved in a verbal argument inside a bedroom prior to the shooting. 
  • The Escalation: A witness reported hearing a brief physical altercation, followed immediately by two gunshots. 
  • The Discovery: Upon entering the bedroom, the witness found both individuals critically wounded. 

Based on physical evidence recovered at the scene and witness statements, investigators believe the 20-year-old suspect fatally shot the 22-year-old woman before turning the weapon on himself. 

Ongoing Investigation by the Shreveport Police

Members of the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to process the scene, interview witnesses, and collect physical evidence. 

Police have not yet publicly released the identities of the deceased pending complete notification of next of kin. The investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
