As arctic air aims at the Shreveport and Bossier City areas once again, forecasters are getting a clearer picture of what we can expect. The National Weather Service in Shreveport suggests there will be somewhere around a 25% chance of snowfall in the Shreveport area early next week. But they are very confident we will see sub-freezing temperatures once again.

In fact, the National Weather Service suggests Shreveport will have a 36% chance to stay below freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit) all day on Monday. In other words, the high temperatures would not rise about 32 degrees during the day.

In response to these forecasts, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office has released a series of advisories and precautions residents should take to prepare. They have released the following:

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) recommends the following safety precautions:

Fo Seniors:

- Keep your head, ears, hands, and feet warm by wearing a hat or scarf.
- Dress in layers to better insulate against the cold, and change out of wet clothes immediately.
- Avoid alcohol, as it increases the risk of hypothermia. Seek medical help for any suspected hypothermia cases.

Indoor Safety Tips:

- Ensure fuel-burning appliances are well-ventilated and inspected to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Use electric heaters carefully to avoid shock or fire hazards.
- Keep flammable materials at least three feet away from heat sources.
- Only use indoor-approved heating equipment.

For Pet Owners:

- Provide warm shelter.
- Remove poisonous substances like antifreeze.
- Bang on your car's hood before starting the engine to avoid harming hidden animals.

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office states that they will monitor winter conditions, and respond to situations as they arise. This includes potentially shutting down roadways, or buildings. The Office plans to alert the public through social media with updates.
