The Council meets at 3:35pm and local groups are encouraging residents to attend this meeting to listen to this discussion. The Bossier Term Limits Coalition has this message for Bossier residents:

We encourage EVERYONE to view the City Council Meeting from Tues Oct 8, and watch the Term Limits discussion and resulting votes. This IA NOT Term Limits as put forth in our petition - which the City Council of Bossier City has tied up in the courts again. Please make plans to attend this meeting THURS (Oct 10) and make your presence known!

The resolution the Council is taking a look at this time would call a special election on December 7, 2024 to vote on the proposed charter change which would call for term limits.

But the term limits proponents claim some council members are pulling a fast one. This resolution for term limits is not retroactive. It would not apply to any council members who were elected prior to January 2025.

Here's the language in the term limits resolution:

Members of the City Council shall be eligible for re-election except that no person who has been elected to serve as a member of the City Council for more than two and one-half terms in three consecutive terms, that service being during a term of office that began on or after January 1, 2025, shall be elected to the City Council for the succeeding term.

The Mayor's office would also be limited to 3 terms. This would also include future mayors and not mayors elected prior to 2025.

The term limits coalition has wanted to make the term limits change retroactive so anyone who has already served 3 terms would not be eligible to run again.

The council is also expected to hire special legal council to deal with all matters related to the special election.
