Bossier Council Could Vote to Put Term Limits on Spring Ballot
BOSSIER CITY, LA - It looks like there could be a decision next week on a proposal to send term limits to the voters.
The City Council is set to vote on adopting amendments to the current City Charter. If approved, these measures would be sent to the State Bond Commission to start the process of getting this issue to the voters.
This latest proposal which could be voted on during the Council meeting Tuesday would call for an election on Saturday March 29.
The ballot would include 3 charter amendments.
One of these amendments calls for term limits for City Council members.
Here's what the amendment says:
"Members of the City Council shall be eligible for re-election except that no person who has been elected to serve as a member of the City Council for more than two and one-half terms in three consecutive terms, that service being during a term of office that began on or after January 1, 2025, shall be elected to the City Council for the succeeding term."
Here's the language for Mayoral term limits:
"The Mayor shall be elected according to the laws of the state and serve a term of four (4) years. The term of office shall begin on July 1 of the year in which they were elected. (b) No person who has been elected to serve as the Mayor for more than two and one half terms in three consecutive terms, that service being during a term of office that began on or after January 1, 2025, shall be elected to Mayor for the succeeding term."
