Shreveport firefighters believe unattended cooking caused a late-evening house fire in the Allendale community.

Crews arrived at the one-story wood frame home in the 2000 block of Grover Street just after 9:30 last night to find smoke coming from the eaves and flames from the back of the house.  The fire was brought under control just before 10 p.m.

The occupant told fire officials that she was heating grease to cook and left it unattended.  Investigators have confirmed the fire originated in the kitchen on the stove top. It caused more than $20,000 in damage to the home. No one was injured.
