Yesterday, Shreveport Police responded to Raspberry Lane following a report that a man had been hit in the head with a hammer.

SPD Officers detained one woman at the scene, while the injured man was transported to Ochsner LSU Health with non-life-threatening injuries. Domestic Violence Detectives were called-in and began an investigation.

Investigators found that a verbal altercation began around 4:00 a.m. between the woman and the father of her children. The woman told detectives that the man attacked her in the living room, punching her in the face and knocking her to the floor. She said she grabbed a nearby hammer and hit him once in the head in an effort to defend herself.

The woman told SPD that the man then got a gun and threatened to kill her. The couple’s three children were inside the home during the fight. The children witnessed at least part of the alleged attack. Detectives saw visible swelling and a small hematoma near the woman’s right eye.

The man, identified as 29 year-old Demarcus Williams, denied hitting or threatening the woman. Officers recovered both the handgun and hammer as evidence.

Following the investigation, Williams was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on three counts of Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment and one count of Domestic Abuse Battery Aggravated Assault.

From SPD:

"Domestic violence incidents can quickly escalate and expose children to dangerous and traumatic situations. Anyone experiencing domestic violence is encouraged to contact law enforcement or seek assistance from a local domestic violence advocacy organization."
