Hearing the Word ‘Cancer’ Was Terrifying, But Here’s What Kept Me Going
I have been a little worried about telling this story, but now I'm not so stressed about it. It's been a tough year for me. I was diagnosed with cancer last fall. To actually hear the word cancer is scary. I'm not gonna lie. But But I'm not one of those to let the hurdles we face in life change who I am.
The moment my OB-GYN told me what I was facing, I started doing the research and to be honest I did not get scared. But that's when this journey started. I then go to Dr. Destin Black, an OB-GYN Oncologist who would map out my plan. We proceeded with a full hysterectomy in October. We were hopeful this would get the cancer out. But Dr. Black found cancer in 1 of 8 lymph nodes she removed.

So this prompted more treatment. I then go to Oncologist Dr. Chip McDonald. He outlined my plan which was to start with 6 chemo treatments over 18 weeks. He fully explained what would happen. He scheduled time for me to go to "Chemo School" at the Willis Knighton Cancer Center. That was so helpful and informative. They loaded me up with supplies I would need including hats and lotions and so much more.
My first chemo treatment:

I finished my chemo treatments a few months ago and we did a CT scan which shows I am in "full remission". That is great news. But I know I'm not completely out of the woods. I do need to get to the 2-year mark and then the 5-year mark before I can do a jig. So I do ask for your continued prayers.
Final Chemo Treatment:

I also hope my story will help anyone who is worried about something to go get it checked. I ignored symptoms for too long. I also want to thank the folks at Shed It in Bossier who convinced me to get to a doctor immediately because of some of the symptoms I was experiencing.
The other person who helped keep me centered during this whole ordeal was Dr. Heidi Henson. She is simply an angel in a white coat. She followed my journey the entire time and saw me on a regular basis to make sure I was ok both mentally and physically. She agreed to join us on air to share my story.
