Shreveport Teen Arrested for Bringing a Knife to School

Things got a bit hectic at a Shreveport school when it was discovered that a teenager brought a knife to school.

The Caddo Sheriff's Office reports a student from Calvary Baptist Academy was arrested on Monday after a knife was found on school property.

Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr. released more details about the incident:

At approximately 2:05 p.m. on August 10, Caddo Parish Sheriff's Corporal Derek Owen, the School Resource Officer at Calvary Baptist Academy, was approached by a student who reported seeing another student with a knife during class.

The student informed Corporal Owen that a 14-year-old male had briefly opened the knife during class but did not threaten anyone with it before putting it away.

More details about the case reveal that Cpl. Owen and a school administrator removed the teenager from his classroom and took him to the office. He was confronted about the knife and he then pulled it out of his backpack. He surrendered it to school officials.

The teen was arrested for carrying a dangerous weapon on school property and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, where he was booked into the lockup. The knife was seized and placed into evidence.

Students are reminded that all weapons are prohibited on school property. Students are encouraged to speak up if they see a fellow student with a weapon. Children are also urged to report any suspicious activity to a teacher, an administrator or the School Resource Officer immediately.
