Yesterday, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the 6400 block of Quillen Drive to a call about a welfare concern.

A concerned mother called police after getting text messages from her daughter that lead her to believe that she was being held against her will. When officers arrived and knocked on the front door, they heard someone inside yelling for help.

As officers continued knocking, the front door swung open and a frantic female ran from the residence. A man, later identified as Aldama Cruz, reportedly attempted to chase after her but was stopped by SPD Officers.

Officers interviewed both Cruz and the young woman and learned of an alleged history of abuse. The victim also reported that Cruz was armed with a machete when Officers arrived at the home. A machete was found when the residence was searched.

Cruz was arrested and charged with one count of false imprisonment. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be possible as detectives continue investigating the incident.

From SPD:

"The Shreveport Police Department would like to emphasize the unpredictable and dangerous nature of domestic violence calls. These situations can escalate within seconds and often involve frightened victims, heightened emotions, weapons, and suspects who may attempt to prevent victims from seeking help.

Domestic violence is not simply a private disagreement. It is a serious and potentially deadly crime. Victims or anyone who believes a person is in immediate danger should call 911."
