Shreveport Police Not Playing Around With Squatters
Community Efforts Address Vacant Property Issues
Shreveport residents and local authorities are continuing their efforts to address issues arising from vacant properties across the city. A recent initiative, supported by a new ordinance concerning uninhabitable homes, has aimed to prevent unauthorized occupation and improve neighborhood conditions.
Squatter Arrests This Week
On June 25, 2025, two people were arrested:
Shaylin Christophe and Michael Rich were arrested at a vacant home on Trannie Lane.
Then, the next day, June 26, Melvin Burks and Cheryl Bayles were taken into custody from a vacant home in the 4200 block of Greenwood Lane. These actions are part of a broader push to ensure that Shreveport vacant properties are not misused, which can often lead to further blight and safety concerns for nearby residents.

The ongoing work reflects a shared commitment within the community to enhance public safety and maintain the well-being of neighborhoods. Shreveport police officials are hoping that by working together, residents and officials can continue to improve living conditions throughout Shreveport.
Shreveport Police remind residents who have information about vacant properties being used without authorization are encouraged to report it. Please call Crime Stoppers at 318 673-7373.
