Louisiana Residents Urged to Update Social Security Info
SHREVEPORT, LA - Louisiana residents should not ignore the latest information from the Social Security Administration. You probably got an email message from the agency this month. It's real and is not a scam.

What Does the Social Security Want?
You are being asked to update your online Social Security information. The agency has revamped the online portal and the goal is to keep it extra secure. But you do need to take some steps to make sure everything is in compliance with federal authentication standards.
After these changes are made, logging in will be much easier. The new home for all things Social Security online is Login.gov.
Who Should Update their Info?
Everyone is encouraged to log on and set up an account. Even if you don't get SS benefits yet, you will want to sign in and update your account. This will make it easier to order a replacement Social Security card, access your benefits and get an estimate of your future retirement benefits.
If you already have a Login.gov or ID.me account, you are all set.
But if you you registered for a my Social Security online account before September 18, 2021, here's what you need to do:
- Go to SSA.gov and sign in with your existing credentials. You’ll be prompted to change over to Login.gov.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to create a Login.gov account. At the end, you’ll receive a confirmation screen.
- Log in and access your account. You will be good to go.
The Goal Is to Keep Your Info Secure
This new process does require a password plus a two-factor authentication.
