Shreveport Theft Suspect Arrested After Threatening Officers
Over the weekend, Shreveport Police were called out to a business on Jewella Avenue to reports of a theft.
When SPD got to the scene they learned that a female suspect, described as wearing camouflage bottoms and having red hair, was seen stealing items in the store before leaving.
After a short search Officer quickly located a woman matching the description, and was later identified as Shaniqua Johnson.
When Officers contacted Johnson, she was reported as being immediately confrontational and refused to comply with Police commands. When Officers attempted to detain Johnson, she fought with Officers and became verbally combative. Even going as far as making threats to shoot Police Officers.
Johnson, at one point, even reached in to her pants, then pulled her hand out in a manner suggesting that she may have a gun. Thankfully she didn't, but Officers deployed the use of a Taser because they feared for their safety. The Taser successfully took Johnson down, and Officers were able to arrest her without further incident.
The items stolen from the store were successfully recovered and returned to the store. Johnson now faces multiple charges, including theft, resisting an officer, and assault on a police officer.
From SPD:
"We are thankful that no one was seriously injured during this encounter. The Shreveport Police Department reminds the public that threatening or attacking law enforcement officers places everyone in danger and can lead to serious — even deadly — consequences."
