Shreveport Police Arrest Man After High-Speed Chase

Shreveport Police have made an arrest after a high-speed chase started when they noticed a stolen car.

SPD Patrol Officers saw the stolen Volkswagen Jetta that had been stolen from a local rental company yesterday. Police spotted the car at the intersection of Hollywood Avenue and Hearne Avenue. When SPD tried to stop the car the driver, identified as Derek Lockhart, took off!

The chase came to an end when Lockhart crashed the rental car under the I-49 overpass on Hollywood Avenue, hitting another car in the process. thankfully the occupants of the other car were uninjured, but the car had some serious damage.

After a struggle with Police Lockhart was arrested and taken in to custody. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lockhart is now facing several charges, including:

· Two counts of Battery of a Police Officer

· One count of Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence

· Theft of a Motor Vehicle

· Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway

· Driving Without a License
